Waste Acceptance Process

From Assessment to Final Disposal

Every waste stream accepted by Namwaste follows a structured process designed to ensure safe handling, regulatory compliance, and long-term environmental protection.

Step 1: Waste Identification

The process begins with understanding the nature of the waste. Information relating to its source, composition, volume, and potential hazards is reviewed to determine the characteristics of the waste stream.

Waste is assessed and classified according to its physical and chemical properties, hazard profile, and environmental risk. Where required, additional analysis may be conducted to verify the waste classification. Certain waste streams may require pre-treatment before disposal. This can include stabilisation, neutralisation, dewatering, or other treatment processes designed to reduce risk and ensure safe long-term containment.

The waste is evaluated against Namwaste's operational capabilities, environmental authorisations, and disposal criteria to confirm that it can be safely managed within the facility.

Once approved, the waste is transported to the facility under controlled conditions. Upon arrival, documentation and waste information are verified before acceptance.

The waste is managed according to its specific requirements through approved treatment, storage, or disposal methods within the facility's engineered containment systems.

Every waste stream is documented and tracked throughout its journey, ensuring full cradle-to-grave traceability and accountability at every stage of the process.

Environmental monitoring continues throughout the operational life of the facility and beyond, helping ensure the long-term protection of groundwater, air quality, surrounding ecosystems, and local communities.
